Jay Munday
Lyric-led singer-songwriter with a soulful vocal, folk edge, and songs rooted in emotional honesty.
Drawing from modern singer-songwriter, folk, soul, and alternative influences, Jay Munday writes songs built around connection — the moments we struggle to say out loud, the emotions that sit underneath the surface, and the quiet truths that stay with us.
Portsmouth-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jay Munday writes music rooted in reflection, honesty and human connection. Blending modern singer-songwriter storytelling with soulful vocals and a subtle folk edge, Jay’s songs explore lived experience with openness and emotional vulnerability, drawing listeners into moments that feel both deeply personal and universally familiar.
Having spent the early years of his music career performing extensively across the South Coast, supporting artists including Dan Sealey, Mamas Gun, Jon Amor and Peter Katz, Jay built a reputation for heartfelt live performances and thoughtful songwriting. Festival appearances at Victorious Festival, Music in the City and venues including the Wedgewood Rooms and The Railway Inn have continued to strengthen that growing connection with audiences across the region.
After stepping away from music for a period, returning to creativity through the lens of fatherhood and family life has brought a renewed sense of focus and purpose to Jay’s work. The result is music shaped less by chasing trends and more by genuine emotional honesty, community and meaningful connection.
Recent releases have received support across the South Coast music scene, including placements on the South Coast Music Chart and growing local radio support, as Jay continues building an audience through authentic live performance, storytelling and a genuine love for the craft of songwriting.
Whether performing solo or with his band, Jay’s music is driven by one simple idea: creating songs that make people feel seen, understood and a little less alone.

Songs About the Things We Struggle to Say
For me, songwriting has always been about connection.
Every song is an attempt to communicate something real — a feeling, a memory, a moment of recognition, or something that can be hard to say directly. I’m drawn to songs that make people feel seen, whether that’s through vulnerability, honesty, grief, hope, or the small details of everyday life.
The aim is never to hide behind polish. The aim is to write songs that feel human.

Beers in the Barn Festival - Hayling Island
I’ll be performing a full-band set at this year’s Beer in the Barn Festival on Hayling Island — a relaxed, family-friendly daytime festival rooted in community, good music, and shared moments.
This will be a 30-minute afternoon set, bringing the songs to life with a full band in an intimate, open, welcoming environment. Beers in the Barn has a great reputation for creating space where people can genuinely connect — whether you’re there for the music, a drink, a chat, or simply to enjoy the day together.
These kinds of shows are about presence and connection as much as performance, and I’m really looking forward to sharing the songs in a setting that values community as much as creativity.
If you’re local or fancy a great afternoon out, come along — it’s always a special atmosphere.
Casemates
Jay Munday returns to Casemates for a relaxed afternoon showcase set, bringing his full five-piece band into one of the most intimate and community-focused spaces around.
Set within a working rehearsal studio and café, tucked away in the forest, Casemates is a place where music, creativity and community naturally overlap — whether you’re dropping in for a coffee, a slice of cake, or simply to listen.
This one-hour set will feature Jay on guitar and vocals, joined by Ollie Gower (drums), Chris Overend (bass), Dom Elton (keys), and Gary Shaw (lead guitar). Together, they’ll be performing original material that’s built for connection — songs that sit comfortably in a room, invite people in, and reward close listening.
Casemates has become a local favourite for good reason, and this free-entry afternoon show is a chance to experience a full band performance in a space where the line between audience and artist feels refreshingly close.
Come along, grab a coffee, and spend some time with the music.
IceBreaker Festival
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be performing at this year’s IceBreaker Festival in Portsmouth! As the South Coast’s biggest multi-venue new-music festival, IceBreaker is known for bringing together incredible artists, buzzing crowds, and a full day of non-stop live music—and I’m honored to be part of the lineup.
My set will feature a few new pieces I can’t wait for you to hear. It’s always an amazing experience connecting with listeners in such an energetic, community-driven setting, and this festival is one of the best places to do it.
If you’ll be in Portsmouth, come through, explore the venues, and catch my performance! It’s going to be an unforgettable day of music, creativity, and celebration.
Hope to see you there!
The Railway Inn, Winchester. supporting Alex Roberts
To say that Alex Roberts has many strings to his bow would be a metaphor forgiven for the fact that it helps to conjure his presence as a musical magician, in which a variety of instruments seamlessly pop into set, beautifully played and adored. Whether it’s the finger-style guitar, lap-steel, or bouzouki, it is played with a sincerity borne of years of graft, craft, and of a man who seems to straddle time through song.
His lyrics offer a fusion of cultural pertinence, generated by an acute appreciation for our earth and ancestry, and a raw gift for storytelling. His songs are enriched by travel and immersive living experiences, from off-grid living in the wilds of rural France, to Tipi dwelling in Dorset, allowing music to guide his path across multiple continents, the result is an oasis of mini ‘odysseys’ in which each song feels like it has been specially harvested for our appreciation. Through years of devotion and study Alex not only turns life into song, but enables us to see that song provides life with its heartbeat.
Alex has been actively engaged in a number of progressive musical and educational initiatives, from Billy Bragg’s ‘Jail Guitar Doors’ – supporting rehabilitation with music in young offenders institutes, to music therapy with disabled people. He is a founding member of the Far Flung Collective – a Scottish/English band inspired by landscape, culture and diversity within the British Isles. Alex’s music has been featured on film and television, he also composes music for film. He is a Bard, and member of the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids.
His most recent album – ‘Trespass’ – (released May 2025 on the Mottow Soundz label) is a body of work illustrative of a deep connection to musical heritage and a progressive mastery of his art.
With titles bestowed upon him such as ‘the Bard of Dorset’ and ‘Hollowneck Troubadour’ (after his award winning lap-steel guitar album ‘Waiting on the Sun Again’ – 2012), Alex continues to respond to his calling as a troubadour. ♫♪♪
